This Monster project took place over a full day at a large ice rally circuit, featuring Lando Norris and other Monster athletes. The production sound setup had to handle six talents at once, combining boom microphones with bodypacks that recorded internally, since the size of the circuit made wireless signal unreliable in some areas.
One of the main challenges was keeping every talent properly mic’d while staying flexible enough to adapt to the pace of the day. In a location this large, internal recording became essential to avoid dropouts and make sure no dialogue was lost. That workflow allowed the sound department to stay focused on capturing clean and usable material without being limited by distance or signal issues.
In addition to dialogue, I also recorded the sounds of all the cars used during the shoot. That included both in-car recordings and close exterior passes, so the final edit would have a strong and varied sonic palette. Capturing vehicle sound in these conditions required careful placement, quick adjustments, and a clear understanding of how each take would be used in post-production.
