Production Sound and Location Sound for the Monster Energy Campaign Featuring Lando Norris
Wildtrack Audio provided production sound and location sound recording for this Monster Energy campaign featuring Formula 1 driver Lando Norris and several Monster athletes. Working as the Production Sound Mixer, my role was to capture clean dialogue, reliable location sound and detailed vehicle recordings throughout a demanding full-day shoot at a large ice rally circuit.
The production involved six talents recording simultaneously while moving across a vast outdoor location. Maintaining consistent production sound under these conditions required careful preparation, continuous monitoring and a flexible recording workflow capable of adapting to the technical demands of the shoot.
Managing Production Sound Across a Large Outdoor Location
One of the biggest challenges was the size of the circuit. Because wireless transmission could not remain reliable across the entire location, bodypack transmitters were configured to record internally while boom microphones covered the wider scenes.
Choosing the right recording workflow ensured every performance was captured safely without the risk of RF dropouts, while allowing the production team complete freedom to move around the circuit without technical limitations.
Managing six talents simultaneously also required careful microphone preparation, frequency coordination and close communication with the camera and production departments. Maintaining an organised workflow ensured reliable production sound while delivering consistent location sound recordings from the first take to the last.
Vehicle Sound Recording for Action Productions
Alongside dialogue recording, the project also required dedicated vehicle sound recording for every car featured during the shoot. The objective was to capture authentic recordings that would support both the edit and the final sound design.
The recording process included in-car microphones, close exterior passes and detailed engine recordings from multiple perspectives. Capturing realistic vehicle sound required careful microphone placement, quick adjustments between takes and a clear understanding of how every recording would be used during post-production.
By combining clean dialogue, natural ambience and detailed vehicle recordings, the production received a versatile collection of high-quality production sound that gave the post-production team maximum flexibility during the final edit.
