Production Sound for the Fox Racing Documentary
Wildtrack Audio provided production sound for this Fox Racing documentary, working as the Production Sound Mixer to capture clean dialogue, detailed motorcycle recordings and immersive location sound throughout the production. Filmed in Barcelona, the project combined a documentary-style interview with dynamic motocross action, requiring a flexible workflow and careful planning to achieve consistent, high-quality recordings in every situation.
The production combined several different recording scenarios within the same shoot. Alongside the interview with the rider, the project required detailed ambience recordings and a wide range of motorcycle sound effects. Every element had to be captured with precision to create a strong audio foundation that would support both the documentary storytelling and the action sequences.
Capturing Authentic Motorcycle Sound
Recording motocross bikes requires much more than simply placing microphones near the track. Every pass sounds different depending on the rider’s speed, the terrain, the distance to the microphone and the perspective of the camera. Capturing authentic motorcycle sound meant combining onboard recordings, pass-by perspectives and natural ambience to preserve both the power and the character of every bike.
The project also involved dedicated vehicle sound recording, creating a versatile collection of authentic motorcycle effects that gave the post-production team greater creative flexibility during the final edit.
At the same time, the interview required a completely different recording approach. Clean dialogue was essential, so microphone placement, continuous monitoring and close coordination with the production team remained a priority throughout the day. Maintaining an organised and efficient workflow allowed the production to move seamlessly between interview setups and action sequences without compromising sound quality.

As the Production Sound Mixer, my responsibility was to adapt the recording setup to every scene while ensuring reliable results from the first take to the last. Working across multiple recording styles within the same production demanded constant attention to detail, technical preparation and effective communication with both the camera and production departments.
