Production Sound and Location Sound for the Monster Energy Campaign Featuring Maxime Renaux
Wildtrack Audio provided production sound and location sound recording for this Monster Energy campaign featuring professional motocross rider Maxime Renaux. Working as the Production Sound Mixer, my role focused on capturing authentic motorcycle recordings, natural location sound and dynamic vehicle effects that reflected the speed, power and intensity of the riding.
Action sports productions demand much more than clean dialogue. Every acceleration, landing and pass contributes to the final experience, making high-quality location recordings an essential part of the storytelling. The objective was to create a versatile collection of authentic motorcycle recordings that would support both the edit and the final sound design.
Recording Authentic Motorcycle Sound
Capturing motocross bikes requires careful planning and a flexible recording approach. Every riding line, speed and camera angle changes the way the motorcycle sounds, so microphone placement and timing become essential throughout the shoot.
The recording process combined onboard microphones with close pass-by recordings to capture different perspectives of the bike. Each recording technique served a different purpose, providing immersive onboard audio together with powerful exterior passes that emphasised speed, acceleration and the physical presence of the motorcycle.
Working across multiple riding conditions also required constant adaptation. Every setup was adjusted to suit the terrain, the camera position and the rider’s performance while maintaining reliable production sound from the first run to the last.
Production Sound for High-Energy Action Sports
Alongside the motorcycle recordings, maintaining a consistent production sound workflow was essential throughout the shoot. Careful preparation and efficient communication with the production team allowed every recording to be completed without interrupting the pace of filming.
As the Production Sound Mixer, my role was to deliver dependable location sound recordings that gave the post-production team maximum creative flexibility. Combining authentic motorcycle recordings, natural ambience and detailed location sound created a rich audio library that helped reinforce the energy and realism of the final film.
